Marin County Library To Open Branch At Hamilton Landing
NOVATO, CA - January 27, 2004 - Hamilton Landing, Marin County's award winning new 550,000 square foot office campus, announced that the Marin County Free Library has signed a lease to open a new branch in the office park after approval today by the Marin County Board of Supervisors. The new branch library will move into Hangar Six, a modern, first class, newly rehabilitated, 57,000 square foot building in May or early June.
The eleven-branch library system is relocating its South Novato Branch that is currently located on Ignacio Boulevard. The library has taken 7,932 square feet of space - 3,200 square feet for the public library, about 50 percent larger than the current storefront location, and 4,732 square feet for technical and administrative offices. Leasing activity at Hamilton Landing is gaining momentum by attracting a diverse cross section of Marin County businesses and services that want to locate in the award winning development.
"We have always wanted a library at Hamilton," said library director, Carol Starr. "When the library lost its lease at Pacheco Plaza, we explored a number of options and chose Hamilton Landing as the most suitable location. We are excited about being close to the senior housing, workforce housing, schools and the rapidly growing residential areas at Hamilton."
All of the popular services of the current library will be available at the new branch. New technology will be provided including data ports and wireless computer networking for personal laptops to tie into the library network and two self-check machines for quicker checkout of materials. The library is planning to survey the community to identify the optimum times for the library to open and remain within its budget.
"Hamilton Landing has been successful in attracting important community services to the converted air base because of the many new residents who live nearby," said Michael Barker, managing director of Barker Pacific Group, co-owner and development manager of the project. "Every month it becomes more apparent that the master plan for a mixed-use development at Hamilton is a huge achievement for Marin County." In addition to the new branch library the YMCA opened a beautiful new fitness facility at Hamilton Landing last year.
